Our Heritage
Tullow Museum is housed in an attractive stone-built former Methodist Church beside the River Slaney Bridge in Tullow, County Carlow. Run entirely by volunteers of the Tullowphelim Historical Society, it holds a remarkable collection of artefacts, photographs and records reflecting the history of the town and the surrounding area. Admission is free and all are welcome.
What You'll Find Inside
Fr. John Murphy
One of the leaders of the 1798 Rebellion. We hold what are alleged to be his last vestments and a monument stands in his memory in Tullow town square.
Sir Ernest Shackleton
Personal items belonging to the Antarctic explorer, whose roots lie in County Carlow. These pieces connect Tullow to one of the great stories of polar exploration.
Thomas Traynor
A dedicated memorabilia exhibit featuring around thirty personal items. We also commissioned a granite monument in his honour near his birthplace in Cannonsquarter.
Local Records
Billheads, journals, vintage images, burial records and genealogy help. Our collection continues to grow with the help of local volunteers and visitors.

Tullow Museum is run entirely by volunteers of the Tullowphelim Historical Society and is a registered charity. It depends on public donations and a small annual subsidy from Carlow County Council. It costs around €5,000 a year to keep the museum open, covering insurance, heating, maintenance and the care of the collection. Your support keeps its doors open.
